SharePoint backup fails with Error running STSADM after transferring initial data to backup share as seen in binary log extract below.
Looking at the spbackup.log we see that the backup process was able to communicate with the backend just fine, as there are messages like “95 percent complete” in this log. Which indicates that the backup process is communicating with the backend just fine and thus this SQL Server interaction is not associated with the failure. Looking down the log, you see errors such as “FatalError: Object Search Service Application failed in event OnBackup”

· Identify the Search Service Account.
· Navigate to the Share folder to which you intend to write full farm backups
· Grant the Search Service Account the full control permissions to this folder

· Grant the anyone the full read/write permissions to this folder
