Affected Module & Version -
OS Version - ALL
Application Information -
Symptoms:
Under NetVault:Backup 8.5 Build 30 duplications from Smartdisk to tape are hanging in a 'waiting for media' state.
Diagnosing the Media request shows the following for all targeted tapes:
"Incorrect media format"
Reasons:
NetVault applies a default Standard tape format, determined by the NetVault Server's Operating System:
- CPIO is the default for LINUX/UNIX
- MTF for Windows.
In other words, tape format should not be determined by its source but by the NetVault Server's OS.
Under NetVault:Backup 8.5 Build 30 and *only* when using Smartdisk as a source, the tape format was enforced based on the backed up
client's OS.
Example:
- If the NetVault Server is Linux, the tape library attached to it would format any tapes with CPIO.
- when a saveset is taken from a Windows client you could only write it to an MTF tape, explaining the "Incorrect media format"
This behaviour doesn't happen on 8.5 Build 39 and above.
Upgrade both Server and clients.
