It is observed that the storage volumes for SmartDisk are growing and consuming more space than expected. In the later stages of this issue the staging volumes may also show signs of disk consumption if the storage volume is exhausted.
To diagnose further check the smartdisk logs for Garbage Collection messages...
$ /<smartdisk>/foundation/bin/smartdisk.sh logs | grep gc
The log entries pertaining to GC will be displayed. Check the end of the output for a message saying that GC completed or errored.
Windows users can download a free grep utility and would use smartdisk.bat instead of smartdisk.sh.
A bug has been identified in SmartDisk versions prior to 1.5 where Garbage Collection can fail because it is trying to clean up a structure that was previously cleaned up by another procedure. This results in the structure not being found by GC so GC reports the issue and stops the run.
Version 1.5 prevents the issue by not placing the cleaned up structure on the pending cleanup list. Any entries in the pending cleanup list inserted by a previous version of NVSD will need to be removed with the assistance of Quest Support.
If it errored then contact Quest Support for further analysis. To expediate resolution, please upload zip files containing the following directories...
<smartdisk>/foundation/trace/*
<smartdisk>/dedupe/trace/*
<smartdisk>/diskmanager/trace/*
Please also provide the output from;
$ /<smartdisk>/foundation/bin/smartdisk.sh config --show
$ /<smartdisk>/foundation/bin/smartdisk.sh stats
Some additional data will be requested by the Quest Support Engineer based on this output.
