What testing has been done to prove that Embedded Excel documents in Notes emails are properly migrated to the Exchange target?
Notes Migrator for Exchange, NME, extracts data from Lotus Notes using the Lotus Notes API, which is provided by the Notes client. The API does not reliably extract embedded Excel tables from Notes messages, and also does not report any errors to Notes Migrator for Exchange when it fails to extract source data of this kind.
This means that NME doesn't receive the embedded Excel tables to migrate and there is no notification from the Notes Client that there was an issue getting this data.
*** At this time there is no specific combination of the Lotus Notes Client Version or Outlook Client version which, when combined with the Notes Migrator for Exchange, migrates 100% of the embedded Excel tables 100% of the time. ***
Through testing it has been confirmed that partial migration of Embedded Excel files is possible in the following environment.
Environment:
Domino 7.0.2
Exchange 2003
Migration Machine:
Windows XP
Notes 6.5 Client
Outlook 2003
NME 4.1.4.15
Successful Migration of the Embedded Excel table.
STATUS:
Different versions of the Notes client can produce different results, giving more or fewer tables from messages but there is no specific Notes version that gives 100% of the tables 100% of the time. Other variables may come in to play as well, such as the version of Excel used to create the table but at this time the root cause of the data not being read properly has not been determined.
PLEASE NOTE: This testing is limited to the above mentioned environment and there is no guarantee that this is possible in other environments. For situations where the environment is different than these specifications it is highly recommended that testing is done prior to production migrations.
Each customer environment is unique, and it is always highly suggested that all migrations are tested thoroughly to verify that the outcome is a desired one.
