FAQ: What throughput / performance should we expect from Notes Migrator?
Description
When Migrating what kind of throughput / performance should we expect from Notes Migrator for Exchange?
Resolution
Performance is heavily dependant on the network environment, however customers typically report 1GB to 3GB per hour.
You can increase the thread count to improve performance (our tests show that increases level-off at about 8-12 threads on fairly modest machines). In addition, you can run multiple migration servers with separate lists of users to increase performance.
Note: Increasing the thread count doesn't necessarily mean a better performance, as every environment is different. So lowering the thread count can also help i.e. worth testing increasing and lowering thread counts.
There is significant network traffic between the source, target, and migration server during the migration. As a result, it is best to have the migration server on the same segment as the Exchange environment. Reducing the hops between the servers and increasing bandwidth definitely improves performance.
Resources typically affect migration performance in the following order: 1.) Network 2.) Processor 3.) Memory 4.) Disk
Customers typically report that the bottlenecks become the network connection or source server.
