There is an issue with the Quest agent (Mail, Calendar, FB or PF synchronization agent). Reinstalling the agent will usually resolve the issue, but may not be convenient. Are there any alternatives to reinstalling the agent?
QMM agents work independently on Exchange servers or on agent host servers. In order to be able to work properly they need configuration files, such as the config.ini which contains the agent settings, and the config.mdb which contains the agent configuration.
In some environments issues may arise resulting in corruption of the mdb file. This may be caused by third party tools (Antivirus Live Scan or Backup software are good examples), applications accessing and temporarily locking these files, or an unexpected reboot or connectivty loss. When this occurs, the agent will lose access to the MDB file and will not function properly.
Reinstalling the agent is not always needed, and is not always desired. A reinstall may require a reboot or existing data (PUB, PRV or PST files) may be lost if not preserved and copied.
Usually there are no issues with the service, the executable, or the config.ini file. The main reason for reinstalling an agent is to get a new config.mdb file, and update the file by reapplying the agent configuration.
Workaround:
1. Stop the affected agent.
2. Rename the existing config.mdb file (which is located in the agents folder directly, in the same folder where the log file is located).
3. Place a new config.mdb in the same folder
4. Use the GUI and navigate to the job. Locate the server pair, right-click the server pair and select Reapply Agents Configuration from the pop-up menu.
5. This step will populate the agents config.mdb with new data from SQL DB and now the agent can be started and will work as if the agent has been reinstalled.
Use the link below to download a new MDB file. The MDB files are version specific. Please select the correct file appropriate to the version of QMM you are using.
After downloading, please rename the extracted file to Config.mdb.
Important: The attached config.mdb files are interchangeable; the same file can be used for different types of agents - for the MSA, MTA, CSA, PF agent, etc.
As noted above, the product version is important. In QMM 8.9 the config.mdb file differs from QMM 8.7 or QMM 8.7.
