Is it possible to just migrate mailbox permissions, without migrating content?
There is a resync option to just sync folder structure and permissions, but after this completes the tool will continue with a normal delta sync and will sync content as well. If this is undesirable for whatever reason, then it is possible to use the following entry in the MSA's config.ini file to cause the tool to sync permissions but not sync content:
MessagesToSkipTypes=IPC.Microsoft.ICS.EventBinding, IPC.Microsoft.EventBinding, IPM.Post, IPM.Note, IPM.Contact, IPM.StickyNote, IPM.Task
Note that this can be set globally under Tools | Options | Additional parameters for agent configuration, or on an individual server basis by modifying the config.ini file. The latter option means that if the config.ini file is ever refreshed by opening and selecting the OK button on the the source server properties the settings will be lost.
Note: In order to see the Additional parameters for agent configuration files you need to enable it via the Windows Registry on the console. Open Regedit and navigate to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Aelita\Migration Manager\CurrentVersion\Exchange Data
and create new DWORD key ShowAdditionalParameters and set its value to 1.
If the console is on a 64-bit system then the registry would be HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Aelita\Migration Manager\CurrentVersion\Exchange Data
Note: It has been discovered that if any of the messages classes have been entered twice into the MessagesToSkipTypes= parameter, for example:
MessagesToSkipTypes=IPM.Post, IPM.StickyNote, IPM.Task, IPM.NOTE, IPM.Post
the MSA will go into a loop where it just restarts over and over again. It was additionally noted that you may or may not get following error message in the MSA log: "MessageClassFilter::TypesToFilter Error 457 This key is already associated with an element of this collection" This error indicates that there is a duplicate entry in the MessagesToSkipTypes= parameter.
Please see Solution SOL51743 - Excluding specific message classes upon migration - https://support.quest.com/SUPPORT/index?page=solution&id=SOL51743 for additional info on the use of the MessagesToSkipTypes= parameter.
