There are KB articles that recommend re-installing specific QMM for Exchange agents. This has been done, but it did not resolve the issue.
Often the procedure is incomplete and only the agent service is re-installed, so the problem persists.
Versions prior to Migration Manager 8.7

Part 1: Agent Re-Install Procedure Checklist
1. Stop all QMM for Exchange agents on the problematic server, including the ones that will not be re-installed.
2. If re-installing Mail Transmission Agent (NTA) or completely removing all QMM for Exchange agents:
a. Go to the problematic server.
b. Move unprocessed PRV and PUB files to a different folder.
3. On the problematic server:
a. Un-install Shared Components.
b. Un-install the problematic agent(s).
c. Verify the corresponding folders were deleted.
d. Re-install Shared Components.
e. Re-install the problematic agent(s).
4. If any .PUB or .PRV files were moved as per 2b, move them back to the corresponding original folders .
5. For the server, where agents were re-installed:
a. Right-click | Properties | OK
6. For all server pairs, where agents were re-installed:
a. Right-click | Properties | OK
b. Right-click | Commit Changes
c. Right-click | Reapply Agent Configuration
7. Start the newly re-installed agent(s) and other QMM for Exchange agents, if required.
Part 2: Agent Re-Install Procedure Walkthrough
To re-install an agent or multiple agents, please complete the steps below.
I. PERFORM PRE-INSTALLATION TASKS
On the problematic server:
1. Stop all QMM for Exchange agents, including the ones that will not be re-installed.
2. If re-installing Mail Transmission Agent (NTA) or completely removing all QMM for Exchange agents, check the following folders for the presence of .PUB or .PRV files:
a. \\<SERVERNAME>\QMMEX$<SERVERNAME>$\Mail Transmission Agent\IN\
b. \\<SERVERNAME>\QMMEX$<SERVERNAME>$\Mail Transmission Agent\OUT\
3. If any .PUB or .PRV files are found in Step 2:
a. Move the folder(s) with the found files to a different location:
- For example, move \\<SERVERNAME>\QMMEX$<SERVERNAME>$\Mail Transmission Agent\IN\ to C:\NTA Backup\IN
b. The instructions below include a step for moving these files back after the re-install. If skipped, a full re-sync may be required.
II. UN-INSTALL SHARED COMPONENTS
1. Select 'QMM Console | Exchange Data | Exchange Migration Project | Action | Install/Uninstall Agents'.
2. On the Welcome to the Install Agents Wizard screen, select Next.
3. Select Shared components and click Next.
4. Select the problematic server to un-install the Shared Components from (<SERVER-NAME>) and select Next.
5. On the Confirm Agent Removal screen, review the information and click Next.
6. Wait for the process to complete.
7. On the Completing the Uninstall Agents Wizard screen:
a. Review the logs for any errors encountered by the wizard.
b. Select Finish.
8. Verify the Shared Components folder is deleted:
a. Depending on your server OS, go to
- \\<SERVER-NAME>\C$\Program Files\Common Files\
or
- \\<SERVER-NAME>\C$\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\
b. If the 'Aelita Shared' folder is still present, delete or rename it.
III. UN-INSTALL AGENT(S)
1. Select 'Exchange Migration Project | Action | Install/Uninstall Agents'.
2. On the Welcome to the Install Agents Wizard screen, select Next.
3. Select the agent to be un-installed and click Next.
4. Select the problematic server to un-install the agent from (<SERVER-NAME>) and select Next.
5. On the Confirm Agent Removal screen, review the information and click Next.
6. Wait for the process to complete.
7. On the Completing the Uninstall Agents Wizard screen:
a. Review the logs for any errors encountered by the wizard.
b. Select Finish.
8. Verify the agent's folder is deleted:
a. Go to \\<SERVER-NAME>\QMMEX$<SERVER-NAME>$\
b. If the agent's folder is still present, delete or rename it.
9. Repeat steps 1-8 for all other agents that need to be un-installed, if any.
a. If un-installing all agents and using a custom QMMEX$ share, see Additional Information | Note 2 below.
IV. RE-INSTALL SHARED COMPONENTS
1. Select 'QMM Console | Exchange Data | Exchange Migration Project | Action | Install/Uninstall Agents'.
2. On the Welcome to the Install Agents Wizard screen, select Next.
3. Select Shared components and click Next.
4. Select the server to re-install the Shared Components to (<SERVER-NAME>) and select Next.
5. On the Confirm Agent Install screen, review the information and click Next.
6. Wait for the process to complete.
7. On the Completing the Install Agents Wizard screen:
a. Review the logs for any errors encountered by the wizard.
b. Select Finish.
V. RE-INSTALL AGENT(S)
1. Select 'Exchange Migration Project | Action | Install/Uninstall Agents'.
2. On the Welcome to the Install Agents Wizard screen, select Next.
3. Select the agent to be re-installed and click Next.
4. Select the server to un-install the agent from (<SERVER-NAME>) and select Next.
5. On the Confirm Agent Install screen, review the information and click Next.
6. Wait for the process to complete.
7. On the Completing the Install Agents Wizard screen:
a. Review the logs for any errors encountered by the wizard.
b. Select Finish.
8. Repeat steps 1-7 for all other agents that need to be re-installed, if any.
VI. RUN POST-INSTALLATION TASKS
1. If any .PUB or .PRV files were moved as per I.3., move them back to the corresponding original folders .
2. Go to 'QMM Console | Exchange Data | Exchange Migration Project'.
3. Expand Source and/or Target Exchange Organizations.
4. For all servers, where agents were re-installed:
a. Right-click | Properties | OK
5. Go to 'QMM Console | Exchange Data | Exchange Migration Project | Synchronization Jobs'.
6. Expand all synchronization sections.
7. For all server pairs, where agents were re-installed (usually, but not always, marked with the yellow exclamation sign):
a. Right-click | Properties | OK
b. Right-click | Commit Changes
c. Right-click | Reapply Agent Configuration
8. Start the newly re-installed agent(s) and other QMM for Exchange agents, if required.
Migration Manager 8.7 & Above
-From the Agent Management panel highlight the Agent Host server to repair
-On the top right of the screen, select Repair Agent
-Select the agent to repair. - No Data will be lost during the repair
NOTE: A Commit of Changes may be require after repair, if the option is not available select Rapply Agents Configuration.
To Commit Changes or Reapply Agents Configuration, Right Click the Server Pair with the Agent Host involved.
