The Exchange Server has stopped responding to the agents MAPI request. This effects Exchange versions where the mail sync agent uses MAPI to access the Exchange environment, for example Exchange 2003, 2007, and 2010.
Upon review the event logs on the Exchange Server the following event is logged.
Event ID: 9646
Type: Error
Source: MSExchangeIS
Description: Closing Mapi session "/o=Exchange Organization/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=user" exceeded the maximum of 500 objects of type objtFolder.
To resolve this you will need to use the Registry Editor to adjust the maximum number of open objects that a MAPI client can use at the same time on the Exchange Servers themselves.
Start Registry Editor (regedit).
Locate the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem
Right-click ParametersSystem, point to New, and then click Key.
Type MaxObjsPerMapiSession, and then press ENTER to name the new subkey.
Right-click MaxObjsPerMapiSession, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type the object type, and then press ENTER to name the entry. For example, type objtMessage, and then press ENTER to create an entry that changes the default maximum of objtMessage objects.
Right-click the entry that you created in Step 6, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type the new maximum number of objects to which you want to limit this entry, and then click OK.
