When attempting to remove an Agent Host within the QMM for Exchange console, the following error is returned:
Agent host "SERVERNAME" cannot be removed, because it is involved in the migration process. Delete all associations with this server in mailbox and calendar synchronization collections, and delete it from the default agent host option in Exchange server properties.
This error is returned, despite all the above requirements being met.
If at some point during the Exchange Migration Project a Mailbox or Calendar Synchronization Job was created but then subsequently removed and not recreated this will essentially orphan the problematic Agent Host within the configuration database.
This is due to the fact that the "All Mailboxes" collection that is created by default when the Mailbox or Calendar Synchronization Job is created, was configured to use the Agent Host that cannot be removed and now cannot be seen due to its removal.
To resolve this issue, simply recreate any Mailbox or Calendar Synchronization Jobs that were removed and when doing so, select an Agent Host that will remain as part of the project. Also, please note that is not required to create any collections associated with the Synchronization Jobs being created when running through the wizard.
Once the Synchronization Job has been created, then access the Properties of the "All Mailboxes" collection and ensure to set an Agent Host other than the Host that will be removed under the Settings section. Then, simply right click the new Synchronization Job and Commit Changes.
At this point, the removal of the problematic Agent Host should succeed and if desired - removing the temporarily created Synchronization Job(s) can be done.
If performing these steps does not allow the successful removal of the Agent Host, a backup of the Exchange Migration Project SQL database should be obtained and provided to support for further analysis.
