There is an entry under Known Issues (TF208203) in the Release Notes document stating that room mailboxes configured to automatically accept meeting requests do not retain this setting when migrated to the target Exchange 2013 organization or Office 365. Is there a way to avoid configuring room mailboxes from scratch manually in the target environment?
This is the design behavior of Migration Agent for Exchange (MAgE) implied by specifics of Microsoft technologies it relies upon. However, the Known Issues format supposes only a brief description of a problem, so the above mentioned entry in the Release Notes document does not explain it in all the details. This makes its text misleading and sometimes produces irrelevant concerns.
This article provides a more detailed information on how Migration Manager for Exchange handles resource mailboxes settings depending on versions of source and target Exchange servers (organizations).
The table below describes various combinations of source and target Exchange environments in which special settings specific to resource (room and equipment) mailboxes, including but not limited to automatic acceptance of incoming meeting requests, can or cannot be copied from source to target:
Source | Target | |
Exchange 2013 | Office 365 | |
Exchange 2003 | No* | No* |
Exchange 2007 | Yes | No** |
Exchange 2010 | Yes | No** |
NOTES:
* - There is no special entity as ‘resource mailbox’ in Exchange Server 2003. A mailbox can be used as that of a ‘resource’ one through the use of Direct Booking. MAgE does not copy any settings related to Direct Booking.
** - For details of setting up resource mailboxes in Office 365 target environment refer to this section of the Migration Manager documentation: https://support.quest.com/technical-documents/DOC258957?ParentProduct=491.
