When migrating to Office 365 the following error is displayed in the MAgE (Migration Agent for Exchange) log.
Error System.Management.Automation.Remoting.PSRemotingTransportException: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The Proxy Auto-configuration URL was not found. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.
Or When migrating to O365 with the Directory Migration Agent
Matching failed: [ps.outlook.com] Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The Proxy Auto-configuration URL was not found. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.
The Agent server is set to auto-detect a proxy configuration file for accessing the internet. Since the server cannot find the configuration file the error is returned by PowerShell and displayed in the MAgE log.
Note: The Agent server and the Console server are usually different Servers, all Agent host servers should be edited with the solution below.
To resolve this simply uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" box following the directions below.
From the Control Panel
1. Select "Internet Options"
2. Select the "Connections" tab.
3. Click on the "LAN settings" button.
4. Uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" check box.
5. Click "OK" 2 times to close out the windows.
NOTE: If logged in as another account (Other than the account assigned to the Agent) and using the "RUN AS" function to open Migration Manager, the above settings have to be modified for the service account's Windows Profile.
1. Logon to the server/machine as the service account
2. Make the above changes
3. Log out
4. Log back in as the account you were previously logged on as
