Part 1: The FQDN IP of the Exchange server can be found via DNS and is correct.
Part 2: An incorrect IP record may be found in the hosts file that points to only the NETBIOS name or FQDN of the Exchange server which causes partial logon failure.

The following sequence of events can manifest the errors as follows:
1. When using MFCMAPI, logging onto a mailbox is successful at a database level. ie, Top two Folders stores visible - Public Folders / Mailbox store.
NOTE: MFCMAPI uses DNS for initial connection to locate the Exchange server. (i.e. Ignoring hosts files)
2. Once logged onto the Exchange database, a double click of "mailbox folder Store" hangs and fails with the following:
The strange partial access behavior is explained by such a configuration. MFCMAPI may use different name resolution mechanisms for different access procedures.
Check for records that may be wrong within the "Hosts" and / or "LMHosts" file when partial access to the mailbox occurs in this manner.
