Does Quest still recommend to pre-migrate computer accounts when using QMM 8.8?
It has been determined, that pre-existing computer accounts in target domain will cause different issues when using QMM 8.8.
If you were using an older QMM version and upgraded to QMM 8.8 and have pre-migrated computer accounts it might be advisable to delete them, no matter in which state they are, enabled or disabled computer accounts.
No, Quest doesn’t recommend anymore to migrate the computer accounts.
This was only needed with older versions of QMM, because until QMM 8.7 RUM didn’t have the ability to specify a destination OU.
In RUM 8.8 this new feature has been now implemented, computers can be migrated to different OU’s.
If the computers in source are spread through numerous OU’s and one needs to preserve the structure, but using RUM to change the destination is not desirable, then one can consider the following:
Don’t migrate any computers using dirsync or migrations sessions, migrate them using RUM, create them all in the same OU. Then use a migration session and migrate the computer accounts, skip everything, don’t append sid history and don’t disable target accounts. Use the migration session to merge computer accounts and to move them to the desired OU in target.
Please test the procedure extensively before implementing into the production.
