There are scenarios where the default extension attributes 14 and 15 are used by another application in the environment. How can you change the extension attribute in QMM so that it uses another attribute instead of the default 14 and 15?
- From QMM AD console, right click on the domain pair, choose Properties
- Select Object Matching
- Select Service Attributes tab
- In the Service attributes dialog box choose object class of the object you would like to change the service attributes.
**Please note: this change will force you to complete a full resynchronization of the directory.**
You can choose another attribute, such as admindescription or admindisplayname, as long as they're the same value type.
Please see the following Microsoft KB article for a list of attributes that can be used. Common Default Attributes Set for Active Directory and Global Catalog -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257203
From the QMM Best Practices Guide, Subsequent Migrations, version 8.5, page 62:
The attributes that can be used as the service attributes must meet the following criteria:
1. Are not used for other purposes
2. Have Unicode String syntax
3. Are replicated to Global Catalog (only for matching attribute and only for projects with multiple target domains)
4. Optional, but recommended: indexed in Active directory (required only for matching attribute)
Normally, you can use any Extension Attributes that are not used by Migration Manager for Exchange and not used to store any other information in the enterprise.
From the QMM Best Practices Guide, Indexing Service Attributes, version 8.5, page 80:
When synchronizing objects, the Directory Synchronization Agent populates the objects attributes specified as the service attributes in Migration Manager with matching and auxiliary information. It is required to index the service attributes in Active Directory to improve the Directory Synchronization Agent performance.
Note: Only the matching attribute needs to be indexed (and only in target if it is one-way sync)
