COM error in the Archive Manager configuration utility (new install or after migration) (4311750)

When clicking on the Stores or Retention Categories tab in the MAM configuration, an error message similar to those shown below are encountered:

Error: Failed to initialize the stores page of the HSM

Error: Failed to initialize the Retention categories page of Exchange Archive

Archive Manager can be installed even if .NET 3.5 is not installed on the server, which is possible via the manual setups in the install package.

The issue can also be caused by lack of permissions in server DCOM.

• Uninstall Archive Manager, install .NET 3.5, reboot the server and install Archive Manager again.
• Assign a DCOM permission by doing the steps below:
  1. On the Archive server, navigate to Component Services on the Archive server.
  2. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
  3. On the COM Security tab, enter the following entities for both Access Permissions and Launch and Activation Permissions.

     

     • Archive superuser service account
     • NETWORK SERVICE
  4. Click OK to save changes.
