How can I configure the MessageStats Console to connect to the database using a different port number?
Below are instructions for using the SQL Client Network Utility Alias with MessageStats Console to connect to the database on a different port.
Take the following steps to install the SQL Server Client Network Utilities, create an Alias and use with the MessageStats Console:
1. Install the SQL Server Client Network Utility from the SQL Server 2000 installation CD on the MessageStats Console Server.
2. Once installed, launch the SQL Server Client Network Utility by selecting Start | Programs | Microsoft SQL Server | Client Network Utility.
3. Once opened, select the Alias tab.
4. Select the Add button.
5. Enter in the Server alias name, for example QMSDB.
6. Select Network libraries = TCP/IP.
7. Enter in the SQL Server name hosting the MessageStats database into the Connection parameters.
8. Deselect 'Dynamically determine port' and enter in the Port number to the SQL Server.
9. Click OK.
There will now be a new Server Alias to use with MessageStats Database configuration.
To configure MessageStats to use the new Alias take the following steps:
1. Launch the MessageStats Console.
2. Select Tools | Options from the menu.
3. Select the General tab and click the ellipse button (...) to locate the database on the SQL Server.
4. The Data Link Properties page will appear, select the Provider tab.
5. Confirm that Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server is selected under the Provider tab and click Next.
6. Under the Select or enter a server name, enter in the Alias just created (for example, QMSDB).
8. Under Enter information to log on to the server, select either Windows NT Integrated security or specific user name and password.
9. Under Select the database on the server, select the MessageStats Database.
10. Click the Test Connection button to confirm a successful connection to the MessageStats Database.
Now you should be able to use the product connecting to another port number on the SQL Servers.
