After you have installed MessageStats, you can use it to gather information from your Exchange servers.
MessageStats supports many complex implementations for complex Exchange environments. At the most basic level, however, MessageStats has the following basic steps:
Connect to your Exchange organization:
- Select the Exchange Organizations node.
- Right-click and select Connect.
- For Exchange 2007 or earlier, enter the NETBIOS name for an Exchange mailbox server.
- For Exchange 2010, enter the NETBIOS name for an Exchange CAS server name and specify a mailbox to which the MessageStats service account has full access rights. Enter the mailbox in one of the following formats:
- Display Name
- Alias
- SMTP Address
- Click Next.
Configure gathering tasks to collect data from your Organization.
To create an initial gathering task:
- Select the folder containing the enumerated Exchange organization, object, or container.
- Right-click, and select Create Task.
- Select Default Gathering.
- Click Next through the remaining wizard pages.
You can view the progress of running tasks by clicking the Tasks node from the treeview and selecting a running task.
You use the web-based MessageStats Reports interface to view reports based on the data collected by the gathering tasks that you have created.
To view the reports:
- Select the MessageStats Reports node from the treeview, then select a report.
- Select Start | Programs | Quest Software | MessageStats| Quest MessageStats Reports
