MAPI_E_FAILONEPROVIDER ERROR when connecting to or running gathering on Exchange 2013 server -
Description
When trying to change connection server to a 2013 front end, the following validation error occurs :
"MAPI was unable to open the message store for the mailbox 'xxxxxxx'. Please ensure that the gathering account has Full Access permissions to the mailbox and that the mailbox server is operational "

Cause
The Exchange 2013 CAS server NetBIOS name is not included in the certificate SAN list, which results in MessageStats being unable to connect to an Exchange 2013 environment.

Resolution
WORKAROUND:
A HotFix has been created to resolve this issue in MessageStats 7.2 and can be downloaded by Cliking here
To install the hotfix, complete the following steps:
- Ensure all tasks are stopped and close the MessageStats console.
- Stop the Quest MessageStats Scheduler Service.
- Navigate to the MessageStats installation directory. By default, this is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\MessageStats
- Rename the following file to have an extension of .old:
QSMailboxStats.dll
- Extract the following two files included in the hotfix to the MessageStats installation directory.
QSMailboxStats.dll
MapCASName.exe
Open a command prompt, change to the MessageStats installation directory and run the following command as administrator:
MapCASName.exe /a gdcpwcas01 mail.samplename.com
where
gdcpwcas01 is the MessageStats connection server
and mail.samplename.com is the name that is included in your certificate that can be used for a MAPI connection.
- If you have multiple CAS servers, run the utility to add each CAS server.
- Start MessageStats scheduler service and try and connect again.
- Start the Quest MessageStats Scheduler Service
