When LiteSpeed Log Shipping console UI connects to SQL instance, it calls extended stored procedure xp_memory_size, blocking all other activity until it completes (4246316)

When connecting to a SQL Server instance with the Log Shipping page of the Litespeed console UI, the instance becomes unresponsive for 20 seconds. After running a profile while connecting, we found that the 'xp_memory_size' extended procedure is blocking all activity for 20 seconds. Any other queries running are blocked and do not complete until after the 'xp_memory_size xp' completed. 

We thought this would have no longer been an issue after we had applied patch release 8.7.1 that fixes defect LS-1127:"Log shipping jobs calls to calls check contiguous memory before executing". The 8.7.1 release notes say that for LS-1127, that Quest "Corrected a problem where Log shipping calls to check memory should not crash server or consume up server resources."
