BACKUP - We're experiencing slow throughput on backups intermittently

On several occasions now we've had backups slow down significantly and take much longer than the normal time to finish. We normally get higher throughput and not sure what would have caused the backup to not go faster.. During the backup operation I was able to get on the server and achieve much higher throughput than the backup was getting. The server was for all intents and purposes idle during this time. I've attached a screenshot showing the different throughput numbers achieved on a regular basis.

The problem was caused by the generation of the OLR map; that step in the backup was taking hours after the actual backup had completed at normal speeds. The throughput stats in the GUI seems to take the entire backup time (including the OLR generation) into account causing the confusion.

Workaround:

Disable OLR (Object Level Recovery)

In the Graphical User Interface (GUI) Backup Wizard, on the Options screen, there is a checkbox "Optimize Object Level Recovery speed". If this checkbox is deselected, LiteSpeed will omit any reference to this feature in the script. If the box is selected, then the parameter is visible in the t-sql script as @OLRMAP = 1.
