How to delete old backup files from tape? (18310)

How to delete some of the older backup files from a tape? How to clear those from the backup device?

When running a backup to tape, either using native SQL Server or LiteSpeed, selecting 'append' will not overwrite the existing backup file on tape but add more information to the existing backup files.

LiteSpeed does not provide a function to delete backup files from a disk or tape.

When using LiteSpeed backup with append, the backups file will grow as the additional information is added to the backup files. Older files may be deleted manually prior to beginning the LiteSpeed backup.

Applies to all versions of LiteSpeed and all versions of SQL Server.
