Toad is throwing an “Invalid release” error if Oracle version number contains an extra digit.
Error received when connecting to Database - Invalid release: "12.1.0.2.2.0"
There is one more digit in the version number than Toad is expecting. Most databases only give 5 numeric values in the version string. So, in this case, Toad is expecting 12.1.0.2.2 not 12.1.0.2.2.0
