Brocade SAN Switches

Foglight for Storage Management uses the SMI-S interface to collect from Brocade SAN switches.

Brocade switch information is collected using the following namespaces:

Interop Namespace — interop
Working Namespace(Brocade) — root/brocade1
Working Namespace(McData) — root/mcdata

Foglight for Storage Management executes the following SMI-S commands to obtain switch information on all SAN switches or Switch Management applications:

Requirements for Brocade SAN Switches

Requirements differ depending on the version of Brocade Fabric OS (FOS) used by your switch.

Brocade Switches on FOS 7.0 or later

For Brocade switches running FOS 7.0 or later, Foglight for Storage Management collects information from the switches using the Brocade Network Advisor (BNA). Foglight for Storage Management works with either the full commercial version of BNA (license required) or the SMI-S only version of BNA (free).

Your environment must meet the following requirements:

Brocade switches are not configured as Access Gateway switches. Foglight for Storage Management does not collect from switches configured as Access Gateway switches.

Brocade Switches on earlier versions of FOS

Foglight for Storage Management collects information from Brocade switches on earlier versions of FOS via a Brocade SMI Agent on a management host. The SMI Agent talks to proxy switches, one in each fabric. These proxy switches are identified through the use of a configuration tool provided by the SMI Agent. Foglight for Storage Management does not perform any configuration of the SMI Agent. The account is native to the SMI Agent.

For information on acquiring, installing, and setting up the Brocade SMI Agent, see:

Your environment must meet the following requirements:

Brocade switches are not configured as Access Gateway switches. Foglight for Storage Management does not collect from switches configured as Access Gateway switches.
