Review JMX Agent Logs

If you need more information about the overall status of the agent, you can review the agent log.

To review the agent log:

On the Application Servers Administration dashboard, in the Monitoring Agents table, click the name of the agent whose log you want to review.

In the list that opens, click Get log.

A dialog box opens, prompting you to save save or open the log file.

Click OK.

Edit JMX Agent Connection Settings

If you change any of the connection settings for the MBean server you are monitoring (for example, the Service URL), you must update the agent connection settings in order for the agent to continue collecting data.

To change the server connection settings:

On the Application Servers Administration dashboard, in the Monitoring Agents table, click the name of the agent whose connection settings you want to edit.

In the list that opens, click Connection settings.
The Edit Connection Settings dialog box opens.

Edit the parameters as necessary.

You cannot change the connection type from this dialog box.

To change how long the agent waits before attempting to reconnect when a connection has been lost, type a new value in the Connection Retry Interval box.

To change the identifying system properties, click Edit .

In the Edit Identifying System Properties dialog box that opens, add or remove properties using the same methods as when you created the agent. After you are finished, click OK.

Click OK.
A task appears in the Task History table, where you can track the progress of the changes.

To retry the connection to the server using the new settings, see Reconnect to an MBean Server .

Specify JMX Agent Credential Use

Some monitored resources require an agent to provide credential information (for example, user name and password) when the agent attempts to connect. You can specify if an agent should use credentials during agent creation, or at a later time.

To specify that an agent uses credentials:

On the Application Servers Administration dashboard, in the Monitoring Agents table, click the name of the agent you want to enable for credential use.

In the list that opens, click Credentials.

In the Credentials dialog box, select the Use credentials check box to start using credentials.

TIP: If an agent no longer needs to use credentials, open the dialog box and clear the check box.
If no existing credentials are found for the agent, you must configure them.

Click OK.

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Credentials.

Use the Credentials dashboard to create and manage credentials and lockboxes. For more information about credentials, see the Foglight for JMX Administration and Configuration Help.

Edit a JMX Agent's Server Model

Edit a JMX Agent’s Server Model

You can edit a server model for a particular agent. If more than one agent shares the same server model, the changes you make apply to all agents. You can add, remove, or configure root types, update type definitions, or change the MBean instance availability. These options are available through the Server Model Editor dashboard.

To configure an agent’s server model:

On the Application Servers Administration dashboard, in the Monitoring Agents table, click the name of the agent whose server model you want to edit.

In the list that opens, click Edit server model.
The Server Model Editor dashboard opens.
From this dashboard, you can add a new MBean root type, update type definitions, and view a list of agents that are using the server model, their states, and any individual overrides defined for them. For more information, see Editing MBean Server Models.
