Testing archivers

You can ensure that your archiver definitions are correct by testing them.
To test an archiver definition:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Configure > Traffic Capture > Archivers.

Click Test.
The Test Archiver message box appears, containing the results of the test.

If the status is Ok, you are done. Click Close.

For any other status, review the Details column to understand what issues need to be addressed and click Close. Edit archiver definitions to correct the issues.

Configuring archiver database shard settings

If the data in your shards consistently represents a time period less than the specified Maximum Shard Span, it is likely that the maximum shard size is being reached before all data can be captured for the specified time period. Consider setting a shorter shard span.
By default, the Maximum Shard Retention is zero, which means that shards are removed only as needed to make space for new shards. To remove shards after a certain length of time, specify the time in hours. The value must be two greater than the value of Maximum Shard Span.
To configure settings used by all archivers:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Configure > Traffic Capture > Archivers.

Click Settings.

In the Common Archivers Setting dialog box, edit the options as required.

Adding, copying, and editing sniffers

NOTE: If you are using an All-in-One Appliance, the Local Sniffer on the appliance is registered by default. If you have no other sniffers in your installation, you can ignore this procedure.
If you are using standalone sniffer appliances, you need to register all of them. After you register one sniffer, you may want to use it as a template for other sniffer definitions. For example, if you have more than one sniffer in a capture group, it may be useful to start from a sniffer definition that belongs to that capture group.
To add or update a sniffer definition:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Configure > Traffic Capture > Sniffers.

Do one of the following:

To register a new sniffer, click Add.
•
To copy an existing sniffer definition, click its Copy icon.
•
To edit an existing sniffer definition, click its Edit icon.

In the dialog box, complete the options. For help with options, see Defining Sniffers.

Click Save.

Testing sniffers
