Associating HSM keys with monitored IP addresses

First you need to define the HSM keys you want to use in the Private Keys dashboard. For more information, see Managing HSM private keys.
Then, for each monitored IP address requiring an HSM key, associate each of the server’s SSL ports with the correct HSM key. You need the password for the HSM partition. For more information, see Monitoring secure (HTTPS) web traffic.
 

Maintaining and troubleshooting

You should monitor your appliances to ensure that they are performing optimally. If you discover any issues, you can use the features in the Support menu to help you resolve them. This section explains how to check the health of the appliances, roll back to previous configurations, generate support bundles for Dell Support, and update the appliance software.

NOTE: The Installation and Setup Guide also contains maintenance and troubleshooting tasks that can be completed from the Console Program or the command line, including a Sniffer Diagnostic utility that can validate the performance of the monitoring NICs.
Maintenance and troubleshooting include the following activities:

Checking the health of Foglight APM Appliances

You can monitor the health of the Foglight APM Appliances in your network and the performance of the Sniffers, Archivers, and Relayers. To view a summary of installed appliances and the software components they host, navigate to APM > Support > Appliance Health.

The tiles across the top of the dashboard summarize the health of the appliances, Sniffers, Archivers, and Relayers. For example, let’s look at the Appliances tile. You can see how many appliances you have in the upper right corner.

NOTE: If you have a single All-in-One Appliance installed, then your tiles should show one appliance and one of each of the software components.
The severity indicators across the bottom of the tile show how many appliances are in each of the severity states. The following table summarizes the severity levels.

Normal
The component is operating within normal thresholds. A normal severity level indicates that there have been no critical, warning, or fatal events fired. Foglight does not record events that are successful; it can only determine that there are no events that had problems.
Warning
Represents a possible performance problem, based on calculations on current server metrics against best-practices thresholds.
Critical
Indicates that the current metric values point strongly towards performance-related problems with the specified component.
Fatal
There is a very strong indication that the server is experiencing conditions that can degrade performance.
When any of the tiles show an appliance or software components in a non-normal state, you need to investigate.

Investigating issues with appliance health

The investigative process is the same for appliances and the software components. This workflow uses the Appliances tile as an example. For a list of views that open for the other tiles, see Summary of Appliance Health views.

To investigate issues:

Select a tile that shows an appliance/component in a non-normal state.
For this example, we investigate the Appliance tile, which is the default selection. The Appliances quick view appears below the tiles, displaying all appliances in your installation.
The Summary - All Appliances view contains a table that summarizes the key performance indicators for each of the appliances, including percentages for CPU statistics and counts for running and blocked processes. The Alarms view displays alarms (if any) for all appliances.

If an alarm exists in the Alarms view, drill down on the alarm.

After alarms are resolved, if you still have an appliance/component in a non-normal status, select it.
For example, if you select an appliance, the view changes to show some statics for the selected appliance.
From the Appliance: SelectedAppliance view, you can review how the appliance is accessing CPU and memory, as well as the various file systems. Alarms appear across the bottom.
Let’s assume this view does not provide enough detail to reveal the issue. You can drill down to more detailed metrics.

Click Explore to open a dashboard for the selected appliance/component.
For example, if you explore from the Selected Appliance view, the Appliance: SelectedAppliance dashboard opens, displaying a Summary tab for the selected appliance.
Review the performance information to look for problems with the appliance. To see even more detail about the views in the Summary tab, click one of the other tabs: CPU tab, Memory tab, Storage tab, Processes tab.

After you identify the issue, take action to resolve the issue discovered.
For example, if the issue is with an appliance, a resolution may involve contacting Dell Support, upgrading the appliance, adding new appliances to handle increased load, or repairing/replacing ailing appliances.
