When operating with VMware Cloud on AWS writing to the root folder is not allowed. Unfortunately, Rapid Recovery defaults to putting VM export files in the root folder. Rapid Recovery currently does not have the ability to export to a different folder through the GUI. A patch can be obtained from support which allows the end user the ability to configure a specific VMware folder via the Core’s registry.
The steps to follow within Rapid Recovery after the corresponding patch has been installed are:
- Setup a Virtual Standby job within Rapid Recovery for the intended VM
- Gracefully shutdown the core service
- Open up regedit on the core and navigate to the agent folder for the protected node that you configured the virtual standby for: HKLM\SOFTWARE\AppRecovery\Core\Agents\%AgentID&\VirtualStandby\Location
- In the Location folder create a String value of FolderId
- For a value use the VMwareID for the folder that you need the VMs to reside in (this must be the VMware ID, not the folder name)
- Restart the Core Service and attempt the virtual export
