Windows Registry Disclaimer:
Quest does not provide support for problems that arise from improper modification of the registry. The Windows registry contains information critical to your computer and applications. Make sure you back up the registry before modifying it. For more information on the Windows Registry Editor and how to back up and restore it, refer to Microsoft Article ID 256986 “Description of the Microsoft Windows registry” at Microsoft Support.
Solution 1:
- Launch the RUU and when you receive the Window to launch DO NOT click "Start"
- Open an elevated Powershell window
- From the prompt change directory to the following location "C:\Program Files\Dell\PowerVault\Appliances\DL\RUU"
- Run the powershell script - set_roles_feats.ps1. Once this completes restart your appliance.
- Then continue the RUU insallation by running the "launchRUU.exe" as an administrator as normal.
Solution 2:
Appliance is on a domain.
RUU installation logs:
Windows PowerShell updated your execution policy successfully, but the setting is overridden by a policy defined at a more specific scope. Due to the override, your shell will retain its current effective execution policy of Unrestricted. Type "Get-ExecutionPolicy -List" to view your execution policy settings. For more information please see "Get-Help Set-ExecutionPolicy".
This situation is likely caused by a Group Policy Object (GPO) which is setting a domain-policy on PowerShell restrictions. Even if you modify and update group policy, this error condition may persist. Temporary Fix to bypass the policy:
- Export and then delete the registry key named ExecutionPolicy that is being pushed by the Group Policy object located at Hive : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\PowerShell
- Launch the RUU and when you receive the Window to launch DO NOT click "Start"
- Open an elevated PowerShell windows.
- From the prompt change directory to the following location "C:\Program Files\Dell\PowerVault\Appliances\DL \RUU"
- Run the PowerShell script - set_roles_feats.ps1. Once this completes restart your appliance.
- Then continue the RUU installation by running the "launchRUU.exe" as an administrator as normal.
- Import the key back to the registry.
Permanent Fix to make sure this never happens again. Work with your Domain Admins or who ever controls the Group Policies at the Active Directory level and have them set the execution policy to undefined.
