The “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” error is a general or random error in Toad and it is usually caused by damaged or corrupt Toad user files. Resetting the Toad user files will fix the problem.
Reset Toad for factory defaults:
1) Fully exit Toad
2) Go to:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR_USER>\Application Data\Quest Software\
Vista or 7: C:\Users\<YOUR_USER>\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\
3) Rename the “Toad for DB2 x.x” folder to “Toad for DB2 x.x OLD” -- (where x.x is your Toad version)
4) Start Toad
5) When asked if you want to ‘migrate’ settings from previous versions, choose NO or CANCEL
6) Connect to one database and exit Toad again to finalize all the settings
7) Start Toad again and re-test the issue
NOTE: If you want to transfer back your Connections History (re-test the issue first before doing this), go to the “Toad for DB2 5.0 OLD” folder you renamed earlier, and then Copy (do NOT use Cut or Move) the "Connections.xml" file to the NEW Toad for DB2 5.0 folder that was generated.
