Problems adding an HP 3000 LTO-5 tape drive, as cannot see the drive in NetVault Device Management.
NetVault is installed on an HP DL 360 G7 ProLiant Server and has a p212/zm HP Smart Array Controller.
The tape drive is visible when rebooting the server and Windows Device Manager can see the drive as well. However NetVault does not detect the device.
The HP 3000 LTO-5 tape drive is supported and can be seen in our NetVault VTL and Tape Library Compatibility Guide on the following link:

I noticed in Windows Device Manager that Drivers were installed for the LTO-5 drive and isn't a supported setup for NetVault, as we have our own Device Templates that communicate with devices. If Drivers are installed, then the Drivers will poll the device and interfere with the NetVault communication. NetVault has to have total control over backup devices.
Therefore we followed all the required steps in the SOL80100 KBA and powered down the NetVault Server and tape drive.
Then powered on the tape drive and waited until fully booted and then powered on the NetVault Server. This needs to be done, so that a new Plug'n'Play communication channel is created between the device and NetVault Software.
We can now see the LTO-5 drive in Windows Device Manager with yellow question marks against it. This shows that no Drivers are installed and that the Operating System can see the device. If the Operating System doesn't see a device, nor will NetVault.
We also made sure that the Removable Storage under the Windows Services has been set to "Disabled" and is also not running.
Unfortunately we still couldn't add the LTO-5 drive to NetVault.
The reason why the LTO-5 drive couldn't be detected by NetVault, is because the Storport.sys system driver passes incorrect parameters to the StorPortResume function and to the StorPortPause function. Therefore, the system experiences the Stop error, and then the computer restarts unexpectedly.

This is also mentioned in various HP StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solutions (EBS) Hardware/Software Compatibility Matrices that can be found on the HP website.
The guide mentions about tape libraries, but can also be used for drives.
After installing this Microsoft Software update and rebooting the Server, NetVault immediately discovered the tape device and was successfully added.
NOTE: Please be careful when installing Software patches, as we cannot be made accountable for any Hardware/Software failures that arise and would advise to open a case with Microsoft directly. Thank you.
