How To: Provision distribution lists to local AD when Office 365 and Microsoft Online Services (4343719)

How to provision distribution lists to local AD when Office 365 and Microsoft Online Services Directory Synchronization are selected.

When "Microsoft Online Services Directory Synchronization" is checked in Groupwise Migrator for Exchange (GME) for group provisioning, the tool assumes that ADFS is being used. GME attempts to contact the O365 domain that was selected as the email domain in the tool to create the groups. However, since AD Federation Services is not in place, that domain is not available locally.

Upgrade to GME 4.1.1.19 or later. Please contact Support for the download link.

After upgrading to GME 4.1.1.19 or later, follow these directions to provision groups in the local AD:

1. Open the GME Admin Driven Batch Migrator.
2. Check the box for Provision distribution groups.
3. Select Office 365 as the Target Exchange System.
4. Check the box for This site is using Microsoft Online Services Directory Synchronization.
5. Click Next
6. Enter/Select appropriate information for your O365 environment.
7. Click Next
8. Enter the local Active Directory Global Catalog server (FQDN).
9. Enter the local Active Directory Domain Controller (FQDN).
10. Leave the Client Access Server field blank.
11. Enter the appropriate admin credentials for your local Active Directory environment in this format: DOMAIN\Username.
12. Select the appropriate location for the new Distribution Group objects in your local Active Directory environment.
13. Click Next
14. Enter a Run name group provisioning process.
15. Click Next
16. Click Next
