Customer wants to Blank a Tape
Method 1 (Using NVBU GUI):
1. Run NVBU
2. Click on Device Management
3. Right click on the tape you wish to format
4. Click Blank (select OK to confirm)
5. Re-label the Tape (right-click > Properties > Media Label [<any lable>] > OK)
6. Right-click the Tape and select Scan
Method 2 (Using CLI):
Syntax:
nvblankmedia [-servername <Server Name>] [-libraryname <Library Name>] -barcode <Barcode> | -medialabel <Media Label> | -slotspec <Library Name::Slot Number> [-drivename <Standalone Drive name>] [-wait]
Example 1:
Blank a piece of media in slot 21 of the library “NV_Library_Large”. This library is locally attached to an NVBU Client named “NVCLIENT1”.
nvblankmedia -servername NVCLIENT1 -slotspec 21::“NV_Library_Large”
Example 2:
Blank a piece of media labeled “DB-Backup” in the library “Lib-2”. This library is connected to an NVBU Client named “NVCLIENT2”.
nvblankmedia -libraryname "NVCLIENT2: Lib-2" -medialabel "DB-Backup"
WARNING:
Selecting Blank on a tape will destroy the tape header and any the information on the tape will not be restorable.
