After adding a NetVault SmartDisk device to a Netvault Backup server, the following error message is logged every minute:
Failed to bring device online: The device replied that the NVBU server supplied the wrong device identity
Backups to this device fail. This usually occurs with a SmartDisk device that was previously added to another NetVault Server.
The error means that SmarDisk is expecting contact from one NetVault Backup server, but gets contact from a different one.
The most common cause is an incomplete, disconnected or failed operation between NetVault SmartDisk and the old NetVault Backup server, leaving SmartDisk waiting for further contact from the old NetVault Backup. In this state, it will reject any contact from the different NetVault Backup.
To resolve, remove and re-add the SmartDisk to NetVault Backup with the force operation. This will clear the condition.
