In vFoglight Storage, when I validate my objects I receive a yellow exclamation point and an error message about a failed reverse DNS lookup. The objects move to the lower section and appear to have validated, but they will not collect any topology information nor get performance statics. No timestamps or indicators appear in the Topology or Performance columns.
This is a known defect in vFoglight Storage caused by a bug referenced by Quest Tracking ID 1233.
Workaround 1
Repair your DNS resolution to have a clean reverse DNS lookup resolution
Workaround 2
Validate your devices by IP address and not DNS lookup.
1) Right click the object and move it up for revalidation.
2) Be sure there is a valid IP address for the object and remove the FQDN of the object.
3) Revalidate. The object should have a green dot under the validation column.
Assign and activate the schedule
Workaround 3
Edit the hosts file to resolve your DNS locally
1) Edit the hosts file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Add the names of the objects you are validating and it corresponding IP address to the hosts file.
2) Right click the object and move it up for revalidation.
3) Revalidate. The object should have a green dot under the validation column.
Assign and activate the schedule
