If you have an Active Directory environment that is currently 2003 or 2003 R2, will updating to 2008 R2 schema affect GPOADMIN?
Upgrading your AD forest to 2008 R2 should not cause GPOADMIN any issues. Ensure there is a backup of the configuration store, by backing up Active Directory or AD LDS (depending on where the configuration is chosen to be stored). Backup the entire Active Directory or AD LDS instance. For reference, if using Active Directory the config store can be found within the Configuration context of AD:
" CN=Wentworth,CN=QGPM,CN=Quest,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com"
If using AD LDS, the config store of the product is also stored within the configuration context, below is the path:
" CN=Wentworth,CN=QGPM,CN=Quest,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,CN={GUID OF AD LDS INSTANCE}"
Also, ensure your GPO's are checked in / available before upgrading the AD forest.
