How to scope a set of VMs to a rule so that the rule fires alerts only for those VMs.
1. First we need to build a service to choose VM's that we want the alert to be fired.
Dashboards | Services | Service Builder.
Click Add New Category.
Name: vSphere (or whichever suits you better)
Click Finish.
Click Add under actions column for Virtual Machine category.
Select add components to this service
Click on add specific component.
Select Vmware under From drop down list.
Click search.
Choose the VM's you want to add to this service.
Click Add Components.
Once done.
2. We need to add this service to rule scope.
Dashboards | Administration | Rules & notifications | Manage rules.
Rule name: VMW Virtual Machine Logical Drive Utilization
Make a copy of the Rule and disable it. In the coiped make below changes.
Under Rule definition Tab:
Please have the below rule scope:
VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk where $object within^inf (FSMService where name = "vSphere") OR more preferred syntax would be
(VMWVirtualMachine where $object in (FSMService : name = "vSphere%").definition).storage.logicalDisks
Click small green tick mark (Validate rule scope)
Click Save.
The rule is scoped to the VM's that we selected in the service called 'vSphere'.
