When using Internet Explorer v8 (IE8), the loading time and ability to scroll through the list of monitored Databases takes a "long" time. For example, it takes the following amount of time to scroll through the database dashboard (99 databases, sorted on alarms) using the following browsers (using IE8 as the "long" loading time example):
IE8: 3 min 24 secs
Firefox (Portable version run from USB disk, due to security restrictions): 1 min 5 secs
Chrome: 44 secs
What is causing this, and how can this be addressed?
Use a browser with an improved JavaScript engine. The JavaScript engine on most modern browsers, including IE9/Firefox/Chrome, is many times faster than older versions of IE (for example, IE8). The WCF layout, which Foglight uses, is done with JavaScript, thus the more layouts/containers we have on one page, the slower the loading time of the page. Certain components use more JavaScript than others. For example, the Horizontal Bar Renderer used in the table for CPU, Memory and Disk is "resource expensive". Hiding those columns containing those visuals should speed up the renderering.
- Hiding columns that are not visible on the screen, or which you are not interested in, will also speed up the rendering.
