Each time a NetVault Backup (NVBU) Console/GUI configured Oracle RMAN backup job is performed additional "RMAN Controlled Backup" jobs are created and appear in the Job Management window.
The "RMAN Controlled Backup" jobs are controlfile autobackups performed by the Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN). RMAN will perform a controlfile autobackup when a successful backup is recorded in the RMAN repository, or when a structural change to the database affects the contents of the control file.
An NVBU Oracle RMAN Full backup job actually consists of three individual backups - one for the archived redo logs, one for the controlfile and one for the database tablespaces. Each of these backups results in RMAN performing an autobackup and the creation of a new job in NVBU named "RMAN Controlled Backup".
This is the expected behaviour for an Oracle RMAN backup in an environment where controlfile autobackup is enabled.
Since Oracle and Quest recommend enabling controlfile autobackup, there is no workaround or resolution.
To periodically clear the NVBU database of these "RMAN Controlled Backup" jobs refer to the following knowledge base solution - https://support.quest.com/Search/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL85071
Note that controlfile autobackups do NOT inherit the main Oracle backup job Target and Advanced Options configuration.
If required, configure and save a Target Set and Advanced Options Set in the NVBU Console. Then enter the set names in the "CLI Backup/Autobackup Advanced Options Set" and "CLI Backup/Autobackup Advanced Options Set" fields on the Oracle APM configuration. All RMAN controlled backups - autobackups and those performed from the RMAN command line - on the NVBU client will use these same Target & Advanced Options sets.
