TOAD will not allow me to change any of the data in the Schema Browser's Data Grid.
RESOLUTION:
Open View | Options | Data Grids - Data and uncheck "Default to read only queries".
Note: If this does not help go to View | Options | Data Grids - visual and uncheck "Row Select".
WORKAROUND (For Toad 8.0 or above):
Use rowid command in SQL.
For Example: select rowid, <column1>, <column2>, <column3> FROM <table>;
Note: If trying to use the "SELECT *" in your query, due to SQL Syntax, the rowid command will not work. Use the Object Palette to select columns instead to get a list of your columns in a table.
1. Open the Editor and go to View | Object Palette.
2. Choose tables under Type and it will list all your tables.
3. Look for the icon that says Show columns and it will display columns at the bottom.
4. Highlight all or selective columns (hold down the ctrl key) and then drag it to the editor window.
5. This will populate the column names, separated with commas for you.
For example: type "SELECT rowid, {drag columns} FROM <table>;"
