Date: January 2010
Affected Product Version: NVFR 4.12
Affected Module & Version: N/A
OS Version - Windows
Application Information: SQL 2008
During a SQL protection, some of the databases in the SQL server are not protected.
The following error is reported in the Fast Recover Alert messages:
SQLSTATE: HYT00, Native error: 0, Message: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Login timeout expired
This is a message returned by the application.
Microsoft states the following for the code HYT00:
The login timeout period expired before the connection to the data source completed. The timeout period is set throughSQLSetConnectAttr, SQL_ATTR_LOGIN_TIMEOUT
Explanation & Workaround:
After some investigations, it has been noticed that the end user was backing up the SQL server with Symantec Backup exec when NVFR was attempting to VSS snapshot and protect those databases. When the Symantec backup was not running the protection completed successfully. Therefore, it appears that those databases were locked or could not be accessed at the time of protection.
In this case, the workaround was to re-schedule the backup or the protection window - in similar situation.
However this error may occur if there is some other reasons we cannot access the instance or the databases.
