OS Version – Supported Windows platforms

Description:
From NetVault Backup (NVBU) version 8.0 to 8.2.2, VSS support for Windows filesystem backups was activated via a separate license. A 45 day evaluation license was provided with the application software, and applied by installing a VSS evaluation key package similar to vss008g.npk. (see knowledge base article 2192).
Symptoms:
When a VSS is applied, the NetVault machine will identify a license that will expire, for example:
#56228 - plg-1099000-at3-w2k3.bkl: Floating Plugin Eval license for plugin id 1099000 installed on
14:45 12 May 2011, 45 day eval, 6 remaining
When this license expires, it will be identified:
License serial #56228 expired!
This will be true even if the NetVault machine has been upgraded to 8.5, where the VSS functionality is provided free of charge.
Upgrade the NVBU system to 8.5.x or greater. From NVBU version 8.5, VSS functionality is provided free of charge, and filesystem plugins installed or upgraded to this release reflected this change, making any applied VSS key, permanent or evaluation, redundant.
After the upgrade, it is safe to remove the “VSS Evaluation License” software from the NetVault machine. Consult NetVault documentation for instruction on how to do this from the GUI or command line.
