SQL Server for Windows 2000/2005 unable to list SQL Server instance - "Unable to connect to the Sql Instance. Check that it is online and the login details are correct. This Sql Instance will not be added for browsing until the above error is resolved."
Make sure that -
* SQL Server is up and its service is running.
* Login credential information in SQL Server APM is correct. A UDL test can be used to test connectivity.
* correct SQL instance name is configured in the SQL Server APM. The Windows Service for a default instance is named "MSSQLSERVER". However the Instance Name that should be entered within the SQL Server APM configuration is the <HostName> of the SQL Server instead of literally MSSQLSERVER. For a named instance, the format is <HostName>\<InstanceName>.
