How to make a copy of full backups.
For more information on this topic, please see the Module 3 Advanced Administration Part One-Web-based Training
Please see the video below:
Create a duplicate of a specific full backup.
1. Edit the backup job, and select the Advanced Options Tab.
2. Select the "Secondary copy" frame.
3. Select "Duplicate" or "Data Copy"
Duplicate – This method can be used for any backup type.
Data Copy – This method can only be used for Full Backups.
*Duplicate: This method creates an exact secondary copy which is linked to the original primary backup. During duplication, the copy is broken into segments and stored on the secondary backup device. During restore, segments from the primary copy and the secondary copy are interchangeable. This makes it impossible to unencrypt the primary backup and encrypt the secondary copy because it is not possible to mix unencrypted segments with encrypted segments during restore. Therefore, you cannot enable or disable encryption for a secondary copy created with the duplicate method.
If the original saveset is encrypted, the Duplicate method will create an
encrypted secondary copy. If you have not encrypted the primary backup, the secondary copy will also be unencrypted.
* Data Copy: This method is recommended when you want to create a secondary copy for offsite storage. The Data Copy method breaks the backup into segments and copies the segments onto the targeted backup device.
During restore, NVBU only restores the primary copy or the secondary copy.
Backup segments from the primary and the secondary are not interchangeable. This enables the ability to encrypt the Data Copy or secondary copy, while the primary copy remains unencrypted such as with deduplicated primary backups.
4. Select the "Manage" button next to "Using Schedule Set"
(Note: The "Manage" button may not be visible if you are using the MAC OSX NVADMIN gui. You will have to use the regular NVGUI with X11 if you do not see the "Manage." buttons)
Important! ONLY select Immediate, or Once. Repeating or Triggered are not valid options for a duplication or Data Copy schedule set.
5. Select the Manage button next to "Using Target Set"
Select the device you would like the secondary copy to write to.
You will see "Target Media By"
Here, you can specify, Any, a Group Label or MID (media id) to write to a specific tape or group of tapes.
Fill in the rest of the options, and click the "Save As" button and give it an appropriate name .
You can also use the Data Copy Plugin for already completed backups.
Please see these sections in the Netvault Backup Built in Plugin Users guide Guide for detailed information on the Data Copy plugin.
