Description: A description on how to configure cleaning tape support on Mac OS X
Symptoms: Customers have problems configuring cleaning support for tape libraries - most likely using the native Mac OS X Aqua interface
You can only modify the relevant configuration options from the regular NetVault GUI. In fact, this is covered in the release notes:
It is only possible to Configure a Library Device in the X11 NetVault GUI - No Configure command is available for use in the contextual menu that is found when you right-click/Ctrl-click on a library device in the NetVault Administrator GUI. The command is available in the Devices tab of the Device Management window of the X11 NetVault GUI. Therefore it is only possible to set configuration options for a library/media changer in the X11 NetVault GUI.
In short, the Aqua GUI does not present the relevant options (yet) for library configuration. However, you can get around this - install an X11 Server on your Mac (if you haven't already done so) and then run ngvui instead of nvadmin. This will present you with the old-style NetVault GUI as present on all other platforms. You can then follow the following steps to configure cleaning support:
- Right-Click/Ctrl-Click/Apple-Click on the library
- Select "Modify"
- Go to the "Configure" tab
- Right-Click/Ctrl-Click/Apple-Click on the library
- Select "Configure"
- Go to the "Cleaning" tab
- Tick "Automatic Cleaning Supported"
- Enter the cleaning slot(s) you want to use
- Save
