Drive cleaning will not proceed if a data tape is currently loaded in the drive.
1. When Automatic Drive Cleaning is NOT enabled.
An attempt to clean a tape drive manually by right-clicking on a drive and selecting "Clean" from the pop-up menu will not procced if a data tape is currently loaded in the drive.
2. When Automatic Drive Cleaning IS enabled.
"Cleaning Interval" thresholds for a drive may be exceeded, but automatic drive cleaning will not proceed until a data tape which is currently loaded in the drive is unloaded. For example, if a threshold of 1TB Data Transferred is configured for a drive. A nightly batch of backups may go over the 1TB of data which has been written to the drive, but the jobs will not be interrupted for the drive to be cleaned. The cleaning cycle will not occur until the drive is unloaded either by a request for another tape by a backup job, or when the tape is unloaded (automatically or manually) at the end of the nightly backups.
Either unload the tape by using the NetVault GUI, or run the
"nvdeviceeject" CLI utility.
