Is it possible to populate an attribute with multiple values when using an import file?
For example is it possible to assign multiple proxy addresses when migrating using an import file in QMM AD?
It works as expected when adding one single value, a single SMTP address.
But when trying to assign two values in the same import file it assigns them incorrectly, even when using colons as separator, as end result the assigned proxy address looks like a single SMTP address
instead of two separate addresses.:
This is expected behavior, using an import file it is not possible to populate an attribute (proxyAddress) with multiple values.
As workaround multiple consequent migration sessions could be used.
First user can be migrated using an import file and with a proxy address:
Then during a second migration session another import file can be used and another attribute can be added, eg. email@example.com
Re-migrating and merging users is allowed and officially supported and will not cause any inconvenience.
Note: correct way would be either to copy the proxy addresses from the source environment or configure RUS (e-mail policy) in target environment to apply required addresses.
Other MS tools could be used. One of the options would be to export all users via LDIFDE, add needed proxy addresses and then importing back into AD. Quest has an article SOL15721 which explains how to use LDIFDE:
Note: it is also possible to use Active Directory Users and Computers and use the multiple users properties feature to set a desired e-mail address for multiple users. A variable %username% can be used. Please see also attached screenshot.
