The Foglight installation fails when the database server name starts with a number. The following error will be displayed:
You did not enter a valid database host/IP. The host name cannot contain spaces or special characters.
WORKAROUND
Current behavior is by design; as per RFC952/953, the first character of a hostname must be alphabets if it is not an IP address.
RFC1123 has relaxed this requirement allowing numeric characters to be first character but the validation remains for backwards compatibility.
As a workaround an IP address can be specified during the installation and the connection parameter modified in $FMS_HOME/config/server.config once the installation completes.
STATUS
Enhancement request FOGGENERAL-I-227 to implement RFC1123 in the Foglight installer has been submitted to development for consideration in a future release of the Foglight Management Server.
