Execution of a task that performs a restore to a single .pst file on a computer that has Microsoft Outlook 97, Microsoft Outlook 98, Microsoft Outlook 2000, or Microsoft Outlook XP installed fails with the below error message:
"The file <filename.pst> could not be created or opened."
CAUSE
This error occurs because Recovery Manager attempts to create a .pst file containing Unicode data. Microsoft Outlook versions prior to 2003 do not support multilingual Unicode data. The name of the operation being executed at the moment of failure is OpenTargetPstOperation.
WORKAROUND
Modify the task file and disable usage of Unicode data during PST file creation by taking the following steps:
1. Open the task file in a text editor.
2. Find the text <UnicodePst>true</UnicodePst>.
3. Replace "true" with "false".
4. Save the task file.
STATUS
Waiting for fix. A release date for this fix has not yet been determined.
