socket connection timed out while attempting to contact Diagnostic Server
Try the following:
- go to Diagnostic Server and restart the service and see if that makes any difference.
- on the Diagnostic server, go to the Computer Management on the DS-machine (right click on MyComputer - select Manage)| Local Users and Groups | Groups | Quest Diagnostic Administrators | Add...
Then go to the Computer Management on the DS-machine | Local Users and Groups | Groups | Quest Diagnostic Users | Add...
Add the owner of the service to both groups (QDS service owner).
Once this is done close Spotlight, restart the Quest Diagnostic service in the control panel -> services and open Spotlight and try to connect again.
- this error can also indicate a network issue between Spotlight-client machines and DS-machine.
therefore run MS Explorer on your Spotlight-client machine, type \\DIAGNOSTICMACHINENAME in the Address field and hit enter. Did it cause any error? (please replace diagnoistcmachinename with real name)
Also, try to ping the DiagnostcServer-host from the same Spotlight-machines.
Then check if service is started on DiagnostcServer machine.
- if firewall is running, be sure it allows Spotlight and DS to communicate via port 3843.
